What does scouting have to do with leadership?

Twenty years ago, I would have said, "Absolutely nothing!" Then one day, I found myself reluctantly dragged into scouting as an adult leader. What I soon realized was that scouting isn't about camping, building fires, and tying knots. Well, OK, it is. But it's not about JUST those things. Scouting is about building leaders.

Fast forward a few years. I found myself in more leadership-heavy roles at my day job. It was then I began thinking back to my time as a Scout leader and seeking to apply what I had learned to my team at work. Specifically, I started thinking about how the Scout Law applies to business and leadership.

In case you aren't familiar with it, these are the 12 points of the Scout Law. A scout is: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

In a unique blend of fiction and non-fiction, I use stories to dive deeper into these twelve attributes, illustrating how they apply in a business setting.
